I hope you all had a good night. Now I'm going to tell you what was going on down here in Melbourne on the big day. I stood up late and than after having breakfast I decided to finally wash my cloth. I chucked everything in the machine and waited for half an hour, reading my book. At the moment I'm reading a book about a girl writing her life on a blog, which is funny because I'm doing the same. Coped with a love story and a trip to New York, where she meets the love of her life. But at the end she finds out that her soulmate has a secret... thats where the whole story turns.
Whatever.
After washing everything and hanging out in the hostel I decided to have a shower, put make up on, dress up and walk in the city. I phoned with my friend Simmo from Wollongong, his friend from the UK is with him at the moment. He told me that he celebrates NYE in Sydney, which was great I guess. It was very good to hear him. He said he will come and visit me in Switzerland one day, but before that I won't see him again. But I'm happy to have such a good friend on the other end of the world. In the city I felt like having a great cup of something. Coffe, chocolate, milk ... or even ice cream. So I went to a pancake store where I ordered a big mug of salted caramel with milk, ice cream and cream. It was amazingly good but sooo many calories, that I decided not to drink the whole. I wished the waitress a happy new year and headed in the direction of the YHA Central Hostel, where I signed up for a BBQ. It was a backpacker party more or less. It was only ten bugs, which was very cheap for what they offered. On my way there I met a girl I always meet... I met her in the hostel in Wollongong for the first time (I don't know her name, but she's Dutch), than I met her in Canberra for coincidence and than she left for Melbourne. While walking on the street we bounced into eachother... Of course we laughed! I wonder where I will meet her again. I just remembered her name, I think her name is Annica. So when I arrived there I was amazed, the rooftop of the hostel was in the middle of the city, which means in the middle of the skyscrapers. I really liked it. There were some guys playing beerpong on a pingpongtable, so I stood next to them. Suddenly they invited me to join the game. Oh my gosh guys I did very well I didn't expect that. I managed to get three pingpong balls in these mugs. I also did the last one, which the group really appreciated (with loud screams and high fives) which made me feel good. Lots of these guys I met on the Christmas Party in my hostel, so the faces were familiar. Lots of British and Germans.
After the game I talked to Jonas, a German guy. His English was very good, I almost thought he was local. He had these long blond hair, big black glasses, leather shoes and loose shirt, which made him look like a mix of Australian/British Hipster. Whatever, we got along with eachother very well, we talked for a bit. When I told him about my homecountry another guy joined us. His name was Thomas and he's from Glarus (thats why he got attracted). I was also talking to a british guy named Dave. He told us that a while ago he was in the USA, there he met his girlfriend and she's from Melbourne. So they fell in love with eachother in the USA and they decided to make this long distance relationship work out. She visited him in the UK and now it was his turn to visit her in Melbourne... But unfortunately she kicked him out after 36 hours! I felt sooo sorry for this poor guy but Jonas was laughing the shit out of him. So I just couldn't resist and we all were laughing. Whatever, thats just what happens. Unplanned things are the best, aren't they?
When they finished cooking the BBQ and let us grab the food I sat to the Danish guys I met the other day. Yes I'm hanging out with guys a lot, but only because there aren't a lot of girls, and when there are, they're always busy with looking good. But there are some rare really good girls.
However. I sat to these Danish guys, Martin, Henrik, Lasse and Dennis. They taught me a bit of Danish, I couldn't repeat anything but it was good fun then. So we drank a lot of wine, beer and that stuff and waited for the fireworks. Acutally the firework was a bit of a disappointment but better than nothing. I talked to some other Swiss guys, but I hate it when they turn to speak Swiss German, I think its so rude to do that... I talked to Brasilians as well. They're always fancied about my name and go "aaah Linda, that name really suits you." Linda means very beautiful in their language, you know... haha. I also talked to a girl from the United States, San Diego to be precisely. But it was very strange because she always closed her eyes when talking to you... So I walked home for 50 minutes with some guys from my hostel, which was good. Otherwhise I would have taken a cab. I arrived at home at two o'clock in the morning, which is not too late.
Today I had a really good talk with a girl from the UK, Manchester. She's 29 and in Australia since December last year. She's going back in six weeks. Her name was very complicated but she told me to just call her P. Originally she comes from India, but was born and grew up in the UK. So we talked for a bit and she shared with me very personal experiences which were very sad to hear sometimes but I could see that she's enjoying life. It gives me a good feeling when people share very personal experiences with me, I like to have deep conversations, its something else from always the boring "what do you do for a living"-shit.
That's it for today, I hope you enjoyed my story. Hugs and kisses!
I'm afraid I have no pics from NYE, I was busy partying. ;)
